As the Gurdy turns.....
Please note that background colors fail to display properly using IE browser, use "mozilla" for best results. Commentary of tracks behind me - meant to keep family & friends aware I'm still with em... It's for fun and play on "idle" times as there's no internet where I work . .

Seldom visits to the Gurdy now, over half of content has been deleted (stored elsewhere) by structure of Google rule-s .... but fail to kill it, connection with blog-kin keeps it up and perchance another pictuere or two someday but for now FaceBook captures the online energy

the Gurdy......
I guess it's time to end the "gurdy" with Google....
was highly recommended to "upgrade" to the new beta version for better features and support... but it ended my format of "picture" blogging... after much ado trying to adjust through help menus and Picasa updates I see they've recently added a new note.... "Beta Blogger only supports up to 300mb of photo space" ... thus I can no longer share my "thousands" word way here... so will leave this gurdy in search of a new place... hope to leave a "link" soon... where you can "see" yesterdays sunset, that words fail to describe......

Octopus & Pirates
Finest dining ... bait. A little coconut sauce deeply saute'd over a simmering oil stove and it's a cross between Abalone and Shrimp... YUM ! - That is the "beak" of the octopus.. they may bite in defense....
The crew chops "Humpies" for our bait... he say's "yum" in disgust.... (they're stinky)
Might also add we caught a halibut that weighed 199 with head/guts removed... thus might have been 260/270 as landed...(or more) we didn't think it was that large so skipped the photo in the slime of the moment... guess Tyler coulda laid next to it for a measurment...

A little touch of.....
Class & Sass..okay.. som'thin strange ?
While riding the deck into Sitka (strongest magnetic pull) -
A very large dark (black?) PARROT with an extreme forked tail flew overhead . . (this IS Alaska)..... ?
- followed unfortunately quite a ways behind by a Bald Eagle... the eagle was slightly less in size of the parrot.. !
too late for the camera even tho it was near... (didn't expect a friggin parrot !! thought it might be an eagle carrying a salmon)
The excellent eyesight of the crew reported a raptor style rear pounce as they dis-appeared below our horizon.... hmmmm...
Otherwise the show an hour earlier was enthralled young sealions "surfing" over the breaking Cameron Pass Rock...
(we "quit" due to big waves this day)
ev'ry day is something different....

This young bruin is currently occupied in the estuary ...
A tale heard in our famous pub yesterday included a guy and a skiff at the beach with a baited crab pot getting stolen by a bear while his back was turned... but the guy managed to grab the buoy line and "tug-of-war" with the thief until it was relenquished and the vanquished bear scampered back into the forest....
Apparently someone has this on video...
Potluck
Nowhere else I've ever been that embodies the spirit of community as an Southeast Alaska "Potluck" ...we gather for feast and festivities... usually music late into the night follows.. These events can be impromptu any day, the above potluck is an organised "Troll Open/Closure" Golf Tournament after-effect...

Sharing Perspective, image this
Awoke yesterday to a spectacular orange moon glowing surreal on the horizon, stumbling along in duties at 0332hrs, I fail to find the camera... (seen this moon before)... shortly after the gear is set I learn of a boat (the one in above photo) taking on water a few miles south of us... his engines are gone and pumps are getting delivered via CG helio service... morning was nice but weatherman predicts off again (did I mention the barometer fell)? as the lump builds and winds peak @ 30 knots southeasterly... the bite was "on" yesterday so nobody is anxious to assist the sinking packer... needing a tow. Not finding hot fishing we decide to "surf" with the wind/waves toward home, some find this active ocean frightening, others exhilarant... I think the fish like it. .... along the way while running a line happily whistlin a merry tune cresting a roller am guessing 16 feet tip to trough... ! lo & behold a HUGE (up close they are that BIG) Humpback Whale breaches nearly clear of the water not 20 feet away narrowly missing the staybilizer fin on the port pole !! and I do mean under the pole... the incredible WHUMP and splash brought my son out to watch a succesion of half breaches as this one misses tangling with trolling lines.... gotta love it !Several years ago a beautiful old sailboat, name of the Merlin was holed and sunk by a humpback... it was raised and drydocked, somewhere in the achives I have a picture of 3 of us standing in the puncture...... we gotta wonder when these powerhouses jump so near.... an awesome wonder.
chk out the Merlin tale;

just "goin".....
After visiting some of the friendliest folk in Colorado (from Delta to Paonia), there's little marked as registered on the chart into Vernal Utah, where there's not a single motel room found due to the Oil Boom as gas prices rise, but on hwy 191 north through hills and canyons for 105 miles to Rock Springs Wyoming is some of N. Americas most gorgeous scenery... wildlife along the way too... posted "Keep out" by the Navaho nation... (nothings sacred)... but still I'd highly recommend this route...
Mammoth & Ol Faithful
Lo - I saw it "blow" on the ride in... but impending rain and nightfall didn't allow another 94 minutes til next eruption... views are outstanding thu Tetons and Yellowstone... did see pronghorns, bison, coyotes (within 4 feet), 2 speicies of deer, a grizzly feeding on an elk, numerous furry scamperers and birds of interest.... oh, and lots and lotsa people, fences, signs and fees... impossible to get a "spot" to camp (legally).....

RESTurANT
860 some miles logged one day, 112 degrees and I drink my 1st Dr.Pepper (inalongtime) with a man whom shares his song to his first ever audience, miles of "I don't know what" & thousands of wind generators in Palm Springs - I get handed a report 1 ol' woman owns the valley thay all reside in and she's one hellufa "high stakes" gambler in Vegas... Tip o' my visor to the motorcycle cops on the LA Freeways - those guys are magical masters on BMW's... awesomely impressed doesn't say enuf.... Southern AZ has been a HOT land of "NO shadows" but see a shadow now as I put a foot onto 4 States today.... Dinner tonight of quality beef and brew but the "special" salmon is "farmed" !! - manager/owner tells me "there's no mercury in it" in rebuttal...
